Series ICS-104120 Mayer, Arizona This Arizona town was named for Joe Mayer who established a saloon and store here. After a stage station was built here it became a trading center for the farmers and miners. A couple of the old hotels have been restored. On a nearby hill stands a smoke stack that was used to sell stock in a mill that was never built. Pictures were made of smoke coming out of the top to show eastern investors that the mill was going full blast. The fire was fed by old rubber, oil, and anything that would produce good black smoke. copper and silver were found in the Bradshaw Mountains.
