SUGAR LOAF, Mackinac Island, Mich. This
is a huge cone-shaped rock rising 90 feet
amidst the forest. The agency of water in the
sculpture of this rock is clearly manifest, as
if to conform the old Indian legend of the
Island's rising from the lake. Scientists tell
us that at some period of geologic time Sugar
Loaf must have been submerged beneath the
sea.
