Arch Rock, located on the east side of the Is.
land, is the most famous of natural curiosities.
It is a limestone arch whose summit towers 149
feet above the lake. The height from base of
buttress to top of rock is 49 feet. It is said
that Captain Marryat came here after the war of
1812 to try his sea legs and dance a hornpipe
on the crest of Arch Rock.
