The fountain in the foreground is the famous "meeting of the waters" by Carl Milles, which was donated to the city of St. Louis by Mrs. Louis Aloe. This fountain scene depicts the merging of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. In the background, right, is the famous Union Station, the first railroad station in the United States built on the common use principle. When completed in 1894, it was the largest railway station in the world
