This multi-purpose structure which serves the in-
terests of flood control, navigation, and power produc-
tion is the fourth largest dam in the world in height
(480 ft.) and volume of concrete, approximately 3
million cubic yards. Fontana Dam is 2385 feet long
and its reservoir has a capacity of 1,444,300 acre-feet
of water. The lake is 29 miles long and the area of the
lake is 10,570 acres. It has a shore line of 274 miles.
