Cascade Locks, seen from the highway, constructed by the government at an expense of nearly $3,000,000,00 to overcome the unnavigable rapids of The Cascades. The locks raise steamers 20 feet and enables them to pass around the Cascades. The Indian legend has it that the rapids were formed by the fall of the fabled "Bridge of the Gods" and once spanned the Columbia River
