TABLE MOUNTAIN.
Table Mountain is said to have been the north pier
of the Bridge of the Gods; the highway encircles the south
pier of this ancient bridge that geologists say was fact as
much as myth, and islands between and the sunken for-
est are said to be the broken fragments of the span that
fell when convulsions shook the once active volcanoes,
Hood, Adams and St. Helens.
