Confederate Cemetery In this five-acre cemetery, named for Stonewall Jackson, lie the remains of nearly 3000 Civil War Soldiers from the eleven Confederate State, and Maryland and Kentucky. North Carolina has 456 sons buried here and Virginia 440. State monuments have been erected by Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Tennessee. The cemetery was dedicated October 25, 1866, and Gen. Turner Ashby and his brother, Captain Richard Ashby, are buried here.
