New Inn, Gloucester. - Six hundred
years ago King Edward II was mur-
dered at Berkeley Castle, and the
Abbot and Monks of Gloucester received
the Royal remains with honour and buried
them on the north side of the Choir, near
the High Altar. To his beautiful shrine the
pilgrims flocked in ever-increasing crowds.
To house them well, the "New Inn" was
erected to replace a smaller hostelry.
