Located on famous Baker Hill, on US 68 and 31-W, site of a large fort built by the Confederates in 1861. The Union Army reached Baker Hill February 13, 1862, and despite destruction of foot and railroad bridges, held the fort and the town, from which the Southern troops had withdrawn.
