The Navajos are the most numerous tribe in
Arizona, about 25,000 of them living in the
Painted Desert country east of the Grand
Canyon, in Monument Valley, and north-
eastern New Mexico. Motorists here see the
women weaving rugs before their hogans, the
men making beautiful jewelry of silver and
turquoise, and horsemen here and there herd-
ing flocks of sheep from which wool for the
rugs is obtained.
