Fall River Historical Society organized in 1921, and opened its museum in 1937. It is housed in a structure built of Fall River Granite and originally erected in 1843 on Columbia St. It was moved to 451 Rock St. in 1870, when each stone was marked, dragged through the streets by oxen, reassembled, enlarged and interior rebuilt. Surviving example of mansions built by affluent mill owners when Fall River was the largest cloth manufacturing city in the world. It is filled with historical material of the local area such as the Fall River Line, Skeleton in Armor, Battle of Fall River, the Lizzie Bordon Murders, etc. |
