The arch at the northern entrance of the park
at Gardiner, Montana was built in 1903 under the
direction of General Hiram M. Chittenden and was
dedicated that year by President Theodore Roosevelt.
It bears the appropriate inscription, “For
"For the
Benefit and Enjoyment of the People", an extract
from the Act of Dedication of the park dated
March 1, 1872.
