The ingenuity of highway engineers, as well
as the coffers of the State Highway Depart-
ment have been taxed to the utmost in the
construction of less than 20 miles of U. S.
Highway 70 between Superior and Miami,
Arizona. Two half-million dollar bridges over
creek beds, dry except for occasional flash
floods, and a quarter-mile tunnel through the
solid granite wall of Queen Creek Gorge are
but the highlights of this bit of modern road
building.
