No. 61567 - The Reading Room, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., is imposing in size and effective in architectural design. It is 100 feet in diameter and 125 feet in height. The pillars are 40 feet high and the windows 32 feet wide. Its walls, tiers of arches, pillars and balustrades are of yellow and red marble; the red coming from Tennessee and Numidia, the yellow from Siene. The view is from the visitors' gallery the railing of which is surrounded by sixteen bronze statues, eight of which are of characters distinguished in the several fields of learning and achievement; the other eight being statues symbolic of these characters
