Top View: The Lewis and Clark Lake Visitor Center, with Lake
Yankton in the background. The Visitor Center, with over three
million visitors annually, was dedicated October 1, 1976.
Bottom View: Gavins Point Dam, built of compacted earth, ex-
tends 8,700 feet across the Missouri River Valley. Lewis and
Clark Lake extends 25 miles upstream, covers 32,000 acres
and stores 520,000 acre-feet of water at maximum operating
pool level. Construction of Gavins Point Dam was started in
1952, and completed in 1955.
