The State Capitol, E. Kanawha Blvd., is located between Duffy Street and California Avenue and extends to Washington Street overlooking the Great Kanawha River. it was designed by Cass Gilbert in Italian Renaissance style and and was completed in 1912 at a cost of $10,000,000. A dome 300 ft. high, embossed with gold leaf, crowns the central unit, which measures 120 by 558 feet. Atop the crowning lantern is a bronze staff upon which is poised a golden eagle Dexter Press |
