Steamer Leaving the American Dock
Additional Details:
Steamer Leaving Her American Dock. After leaving the dock, the steamship's path to the ocean lies down the harbor and through the Narrows to the Bay. Passing the numerous piers of this great maritime port, she soon reaches the Battery (a public park of 21 acres), with its famous sea-wall, and what was originally Fort Clinton, but now the Aquarium: on the left may be seen Governor's Island, a fortified military reservation and the residence of the Major-General; to the right, Ellis Island, the landing station for all immigrants entering this port. The ship soon after passes Bedloe's Island, on which is Bartholdi's statue of "Liberty Enlightening the World." Oilette |
