In 1839 Rev. Cyrus Pierce gathered three pupils to
found the first Normal School in the United States in
this building in Lexington, Massachusetts. As the
school grew it moved to West Newton in 1844, then to
its present site at Framingham in 1853 where it is now
known as Framingham State College. This building
was originally erected in 1822 for the Lexington Acad-
emy, and is now the Masonic Temple.
