THE BIG STACK
ANACONDA, MONTANA
585' 11/2" tall, ine stack has an outside diameter of
86', inside diameter of 75' 4", with the walls mea-
suring 5' 4" thick at the base. Inside diameter at the
top is 60'. 20,491 sacks of cement were used in build-
ing the 5000 cubic foot concrete base, with the mor-
tar for bricklaying requiring 42,354 sacks. 2,466,392
various sized large brick-the equivalent of 6,672,214
common house brick-are in the stack. The stack
weighs 23,810 tons. Smoke went up the stack for the
first time on May 5th, 1919.
