This tunnel and the elevator shaft were blasted out of the solid granite cliff, taking nine months and eight tons of dynamite to open up the passages. The tunnel pictured in 7 x 7 feet inside dimensions and lighted by flourescent fixtures, with a total length of 196 feet.

    Dad's Company, Cowan & Co, blew the hole for the elevator, so you could "ride" & not walk, (Take the Ladders) to the top. Like The Confederates did, during the Civil War. Chimnet Rock was a look out point for te South!
