LOVELY
LOUISIANA
OAKLAND PLANTATION
Near Natchitoches, Louisiana
Built in 1821, this is one of the oldest
types of Louisiana plantation houses,
a large raised cottage, with high open basement
and brick pillars supporting the white frame
structure. The bricks used were baked on the
plantation by slaves, and adobe and deerhide were
used in binding together the foundation.
