Built 1829. It has served as a residence, dining hall, hospital and post office. In 1878 General Josiah B. Gorgas, Chief of Ordinance for the Confederate Army, brought his family here to live while he served as President of the University. Son William Crawford Gorgas assisted in conquering yellow fever, a feat that made possible the completion of the Panama Canal
