Old Middle College was erected by the citizens
of the pioneer village of Beloit in 1847, only a
year after Beloit College was chartered. It is
said to be the oldest college building northwest
of Chicago. The grounds surrounding "Old
Middle'' are dotted with prehistoric Indian
mounds.
