Reflecting its duties as the servant of man's
largest hydroelectric generators, the Grand Cou-
lee Dam is bathed in light at night. The snowy
whiteness of its falls, twice as high as Niagara,
entrances the visitor as he views man's largest
concrete dam, a 21,600,000-ton giant blocking
the Columbia River 95 miles west of Spokane.
The dam forms Lake Roosevelt, a 151-mile
waterway stretching to the Canadian border.
