THE HUGH C. LEIGHTON CO., MANUFACTURERS, PORTLAND, ME., U.S.A.27361
Home of Mrs. Lillian M. W. Stevens, National
President Womens Christian Temperance Union,
Portland, Maine. This ancestral mansion stands upon a
commanding eminence in the old-time village of Stroud water,
at the very terminus of the suburban trolley line from Portland,
Maine, three miles distant from the city's central square.
It was built during the first decade of the last century, fully
one hundred years ago. At that time Stroudwater was locally
famous for its shipbuilding, as many as thirteen vessels having
been sent from its yards in one year. To-day it is a delightful
Sleepy Hollow, filled with mystic colonial houses, and teeming
with romance of ye olden time. Mrs. Stevens' home is visited
annually by many tourists to Portland, and has sheltered
many honored guests.
