TVA's Kentucky Dam near Paducah. This
dam impounds a lake 184 miles long and has a
flood storage capacity of more than four million
acre-feet of water. The Kentucky Dam will ma-
terially reduce flood crests on the Mississippi
River south of Cairo, Illinois. Kentucky Dam is
206 feet high and 8,650 feet long. Surface
area of the lake behind the dam is 158,500
acres with a shoreline of more than 2,000 miles.
