The Indian pueblo of San Geronimo de Taos is
some seventy-five miles north and east of Santa
Fe. Perhaps no other pueblo in the Rio Grande
valley has felt so little the march of civilization.
The village proper is split by the little Taos Riv-
er, the great communal dwellings of one section
rising to a height of seven stories -- a height not
equaled in any other pueblo in the Southwest.
