The Pueblo of Cochiti, ten miles north of
Domingo, New Mexico, on the main line of the
Santa Fe, was found by Onate in 1598 and was
the seat of the Spanish Mission of San Buena-
ventura in 1680. The church is still standing.
In spite of the fact that the Cochiti are nominally
Catholics they are intensely conservative and still
preserve their ancient religious rites.
