UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME, NOTRE DAME, IND.
Nieuwland Science Hall houses the chemistry, physics
and mathematics departments of Notre Dame's College
of Science. Included in the building are classrooms,
thirty modern laboratories, and a science library. Dedi-
cated in October, 1953, the building is named for the
late Rev. Julius A. Nieuwland, C.S.C., the Notre Dame
priest-scientist who developed the basic formula for
synthetic rubber.
