THE MCLENNAN COUNTY COURTHOUSE,
WACO, TEXAS
Built 1901-1902
The handsome limestone, marble and granite court-
house of Renaissance Revival architecture was
designed by J. Riely Gordan of Dallas. The statue
atop the dome is Themis, the Greek personification
of justice. Below
Below are two smaller statues, one
of a torchbearer and the other a Roman version
of Themis called Justitia. American Eagles surround
the dome. Pilasters and columns are Corinthian and
Tonic. Decorations include Roman laurel boughs,
dentils, domed windows, and arched lights. Flood-
lights have been added to make the building a thing
of beauty at night also.
