San Ildefonso (Indian name Po-Whnw-ge) "place where water ranged," is about 20 miles from Santa Fe. The inhabitants, numbering about 75, belong to the Tewa tribe. This Pueblo, once important, is dwindling in population and probably soon will become extinct or will become a Mexican village, as has happened in Pojuaque, Nambe, Santa Cruz and numerous other Pueblos
