The Pueblo Indians, though con-
verted to Christianity three centu-
ries ago, have not in the least given
up their pagan Gods and rites, but
have placed the white man's God in
their ancient pantheon. The Buf-
falo dance, a celebration in honor of
the God of the Chase and a sort of
prayer for successful hunting dur-
ing the winter, is held on the feast
day of the patron saint of Tesuque
Pueblo, St. James (San Diego), No-
vember 12th,
