The University of Tennessee at Knoxville is
the capstone of the State's educational system.
It is in the front ranks of the schools of the
South. The campus is located about one mile
from the center of the city on W. Cumberland
Avenue and is known as “The Hill" and is one
of the most beautiful in the country. The en-
rollment is over 2500. It was founded in 1794
as Blount College. In 1807 it became East
Tennessee College. in 1840 the name was
