mc FIRST MONUMENT TO GEORGE WASHINGTON NEAR U. S. 40, BOONSBORO, MD. was The first Monument erected to the memory Washington is located on top of South Mountain built July 4th, 1827. The original monument was gradually reduced to a state of near ruins over a period of years. In 1936 it was rebuilt and is now a Maryland State Park. It is reached by a splendid road leading from U.
