Key was held, under truce, aboard an English
Frigate during the bombardment of Fort McHenry,
Baltimore, September 14, 1814. Through the night
he anxiously watched the shelling of the historic
fortress; at dawning "our flag was still there,"
inspiration for the writing of Our National
Anthem. Key's monument and Burial Place is in
Frederick.
