COURT SQUARE-MARKET DAY. Court Square, in the
center of the city, is a busy section at all times, for it is
lined with the most prominent retail shops in Nashville. On
market days the scene is animated indeed, for the housekeep
-ers personally go to market accompanied by a negro man
or boy, to "tote" the heavy market basket home in time for
the late afternoon dinner. The most prominent building on
the Square is the court house; the market house is a hand-
some structure as well.
