Colonel William Cody, better known to the world as Buffalo Bill, was born in Scot County, Iowa, on February 26 of either 1845 or 1846 (his history does not agree on the year.) Famous as an Indian fighter and scout, he roamed the West, where in Denver on January 10, 1917, he died. His grave is on the summit of Lookout Mountain. The skillfully engineered auto road leading to it is known as Lariat Trail
