"HOMAS R. DOCKING is the forty-first Lieutenant Governor of the State of Kansas.
He was elected with Governor John Carlin on November 2, 1982, and was sworn
into office on January 10, 1983.
A fourth generation native Kansan, Thomas R. Docking was born in Lawrence, Kansas,
on August 10, 1954. He is the grandson of George Docking, who was governor from
1957-1961, and the son of Robert Docking, also a former governor, 1967-1975. Tom
Docking attended Pershing Grade School in Arkansas City, Landon Junior High in
Topeka, and was graduated from Topeka West High School in 1972. He received his
bachelor's degree in economics and political science from the University of Kansas in
1976. He spent one semester at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Mr.
Docking received a master of business administration degree and juris doctorate from the
University of Kansas in 1980. He was the recipient of the Carl T. Smith Scholarship in
the School of Law, the Emil Dade Scholarship, and the Solon Summerfield Scholarship in
the School of Business. He was elected to the honor society of Pi Sigma Alpha and the
honorary scholastic society of Beta Gamma Sigma. Tom Docking is a member of Beta
Theta Pi.
The Lieutenant Governor is a practicing attorney in Wichita, where he resides with his
wife, Jill Sadowsky Docking, and their son, Brian.
