Fit for a king but shrouded in mystery is
this 1914 Daimler, purportedly a gift from
Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany to the King of
Bulgaria. In 1936, the exiled Kaiser disclaim-
ed any knowledge of the car. The Daimler-
Benz Company reported that the serial num-
bers corresponded to those on a car sold to
a Copenhagen businessman, but the descrip-
tion proved it to be another automobile. The
handmade limousine is a classic example of
the craftsmanship of German coach builders.
The interior is upholstered in brocade and
finished in inlaid rosewood and mahogany
and the inside window and door fixtures are
of delicately carved ivory and gold-plate. To
date, the car's origin is still unknown. Here
it is parked before the Sir John Bennett
Jewelry Store.
