In 1971, British Columbia celebrated the 100th anniversary of its entry into the Confederation of Canadian Provinces. The Civic Centre was the Centennial project of the people of Courtenay and area. The City of Courtenay is ideally situated off the Strait of Georgia almost exactly half way up the eastern coast of Vancouver Island.
