THE OLD FRARY HOUSE. Deerfield is a pretty
Massachusetts village near the foot of Deerfield Mountain,
700 feet high, which commands an extended view. This is in
the center of those scenes of which we rend in the history of
the founding of New England. The Deerfield Valley was
the scene of some of the bloodiest incidents of King Philip's
War. Nearby is Sugar Loaf Mountain, the reported head-
quarters of the Indian, King Philip. The old Frary house is
a well-preserved relic of Colonial and Indian-fighting days,
set right in the front center of the scene. 212.
