It rises at gradient of six percent, by graceful curves, to summit 2300 ft. above tiewater. First of great state road mountain crossovers. Opened Sept. 10, 1910 with a picnic on the skyline. Here Mrs. George Westinghouse raised the American flag. The Ladder cost $240,000 and is the most traveled mountain road in America
