WAVING GIRL' AND HER HOME, SAVANNAH, GA.-90

The waving girl, born in this house, located
on the Savannah River between Savannah and
Tybee, greets all passing steamers by waving.
Passing boats acknowledge her waving by
blowing whistles. Many years ago a young "
man, to whom she was engaged, went away
to
sea. She watched every boat returning
up the Savannah River. He never returned
and she continued to greet each boat by wav-
ing, hoping that some day he would come.
Her brother is the keeper of the lights along
the river.
