The waving girl, born in this house, located on the Savannah River between Savannah and Tybee, greets all passing steamers by waving. Passing boats acknowledge her waving by blowing whistles. Many years ago a young man, to who she was engaged, went away to sea. She watched every boat returning up the Savannah River. He never returned and she continued to greet each boat by waving, hoping that some day he would come. Her brother is the keeper of the lights along the river
