LITTLE ROUND TOP.
This hill on the southern end of the Union line, rising
nearly 200 feet above Plum Run, and bare of timber on its
western slope, was the scene of some desperate fighting in the
effort made by the Confederates to gain possession. Big Round
Top, separated by a narrow defile, and about 150 feet higher,
shows in the background. The large monument is the 12th
and 44th N. Y., the smaller the 140th N. Y.
