THE PROFILE "OLD MAN OF THE
MOUNTAIN,” FRANCONIA NOTCH.
Twelve hundred feet above Profile Lake,
three separate ledges of coarse granite,
90 feet high present the bold profile of
the Old Man of the Mountain, the car-
dinal wonder of the whole White Moun-
tain region. Facing southeast near the
summit of Mt. Cannon, at an altitude of
3,500 feet, boldly outlined against the
sky, amazing in its silent grandeur, ap-
pears the “Great Stone Face.”
