The Statue of Gen. Wm. Tecumseh Sherman. Wash-
ington, D. C., stands south of the U. S. Treasury and
just southeast of the White House. It overlooks Pennsyl-
vania Ave., amid surroundings that are ideal for a
colossal monument. The sculptor, Carl Rohl Smith,
has portrayed Gen. Sherman, just as he rode up historic
Pennsylvania Ave. many times in parade mid the
plaudits of the people. The bas reliefs around the ped-
estal represent episodes of his life. It was erected by the
Society of the Army of the Tennessee. Cost. $90,000,
