Historic steamboat now owned and operated
by Louisville and Jefferson County, Kentucky. Built
in 1914 as the "Idlewild”, she first operated as a
ferry and day packet carrying passengers, freight,
farm produce and even livestock. She became an
excursion boat in the early 1920's. During World ·
War Il she towed oil barges. In 1948 her name
was changed to the "Avalon" and she resumed
the excursion business. Becoming the "Belle of
Louisville" in 1963, she is now one of Louisville's
busiest and most famous attractions.
