Taos is the most interesting of all the upper
Rio Grande Pueblos. Population about 400. It
lies Northeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The
pueblo is situated between the rivers Taos and
Lucero and the picturesque Taos Mountains form
a beautiful back-ground for this unique pueblo.
The two great piles of communal dwellings
resemble pyramids in as much as they recede step
by step from the first floor to the summit. One
section rising to a height of seven stories, the other
five stories. The great religious festival at Taos is
held annually on September 30th and is one of the
best known in New Mexico.
