The Palace of the Governors was built in 1609, 1C 30 AM
in the reign of Philip III of Spain, by Don Pedro 1934
de Peralta, Governor and Captain-General of by
“Kingdom and Provinces of New Mexico''. BA
sieged and abandoned during the Pueblo Rebellion
of 1.680, it was retaken by the Spaniards under De
Vargas in 1692 and finally captured by Gen. Ste-
phen W. Kearney in 1845. Here Lew Wallace
wrote much of his famous book “Ben Hur''.
